Gareth Keane, aged 39, of Pynnacles Close, Stanmore, Greater London, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment at Basildon Crown Court on Thursday, 23 July 2026, after being found guilty of rape and voyeurism.

The court heard that the charges stemmed from a serious sexual assault committed against a female victim in Basildon in 2023. Following the attack, the survivor reported the incident to Essex Police, leading to a comprehensive multi-year investigation conducted in close coordination with specialist officers and Independent Sexual Violence Advisers (ISVAs).

Keane was formally charged with four counts of rape and one count of voyeurism. He maintained his innocence throughout proceedings, denying all allegations and requiring the matter to proceed to a full crown court trial. After deliberating on the evidence presented by the prosecution, the jury returned guilty verdicts on one count of rape and one count of voyeurism.

Following the sentencing, the survivor commended Essex Police and her independent adviser for their dedicated support throughout the three-year judicial process, while encouraging other victims of sexual violence to come forward and report offences to law enforcement.

On 23 July 2026, the presiding judge sentenced Keane to a total custodial term of five years’ imprisonment for his crimes.
