Michael Francis, then aged 42, of Sandyfields View, Skellow, has been sentenced to 36 years in prison at Sheffield Crown Court for a series of severe child abuse offences.
The court heard that Francis targeted two victims aged between five and 18 across Yorkshire. The offences came to light in 2019 after one survivor reported the abuse to police, prompting a joint investigation by South Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Police that uncovered a second victim.
Detectives conducted extensive enquiries, compiling testimonial and circumstantial evidence that resulted in 14 formal charges being brought against Francis.
Following a crown court trial, Francis was convicted of two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, one count of indecent assault, five counts of rape of a child under 13, and six counts of rape against the second victim.
In May 2022, the judge sentenced Francis to 36 years, ordering him to serve a minimum of 31 years in custody before completing five years on licence, with all case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
