On 15 November 2022, Shah Sikander, aged 36, of Warrington, was sentenced at Preston Crown Court to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to child abduction and rape.
The court heard details regarding a Lancashire Police investigation launched following an incident on 15 July 2021. Prosecutors outlined how Sikander engaged in calculated online grooming on Snapchat, posing as a 22-year-old man under the alias ‘Sanchez’ and using photographs of a younger individual.
Sikander targeted a 14-year-old girl, coaxing her with promises of gifts and coercing her to transmit sexualized images of herself. On 15 July 2021, Sikander convinced the victim to meet him in Poulton-le-Fylde. He subsequently drove the teenager to a remote location in Preston, where he raped her before leaving her in Blackpool town centre.
The victim returned home that evening and disclosed the assault to her family, prompting an immediate police response. Lancashire Police investigators reviewed local CCTV footage, successfully identifying Sikander’s vehicle and arresting him on the M6 motorway the following day.
Sikander subsequently entered guilty pleas to counts of rape and child abduction.
