On 6 August 2026, Leon Harvey, aged 43, of Burke Street, Scunthorpe, was sentenced at York Crown Court to six years in prison after being found guilty of kidnap and assault following a four-day jury trial.
The court heard details regarding an investigation launched by North Yorkshire Police after an incident on Saturday 13 September 2025. Prosecutors outlined how Harvey used digital tracking applications and paid subscription services to monitor the movements of his former partner without her knowledge or consent.
Harvey tracked the victim to a hotel in York, where he confronted her shortly after her arrival and forced her outside. Once outside the building, Harvey physically assaulted the victim, punching and kicking her to the ground and inflicting injuries to her face, lip, and knee. He then confiscated her mobile phone and car keys, telling her she had to come with him before forcing her into his vehicle.
Officers from North Yorkshire Police intercepted Harvey’s vehicle shortly after the abduction, arresting him at the scene and retrieving the victim’s personal items.
Digital forensic examinations conducted on Harvey’s mobile device uncovered evidence of tracking software, including location-tracking applications and active email subscriptions to vehicle tracking companies. During police interviews, Harvey expressed no remorse for his actions, maintaining that he was still in a relationship with the victim despite it ending months prior.
Following his conviction at trial in April 2026, Harvey remained remanded in custody until his sentencing hearing.
On Thursday 6 August 2026, the presiding judge handed Harvey a six-year custodial term.
