In 2021, Nicholas Murphy, THEN a 65-year-old convicted offender from Staines-upon-Thames, was jailed for five years after sharing child sexual abuse images online in breach of a court order.
Nicholas Murphy, of Staines-upon-Thames, pleaded guilty at Guildford Crown Court to making and distributing indecent images of children, possession of prohibited images, possession of extreme pornographic images, and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). The court heard that Surrey Police executed a search warrant at Murphy’s home in September 2020 following intelligence regarding online image uploads. Forensic examination of a seized mobile phone uncovered hundreds of indecent images and videos, including Category A material depicting child rape. Investigators also discovered chat logs involving hundreds of participants where Murphy shared abuse images and made comments about harming children, in direct violation of restrictions imposed after a 2005 conviction.
The judge sentenced Murphy to five years’ imprisonment.
Following his convictions, Murphy was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
He also remains subject to statutory public protection notification requirements, licence conditions, and monitoring by law enforcement upon release.
