In 2021, Matthew Phair, THEN a 38-year-old man from Ashton, was jailed for two years after attempting to groom an undercover police officer posing as a 13-year-old girl.
Matthew Phair, of Bolton Road, Ashton, pleaded guilty at Bolton Crown Court to five charges, including inciting a child to perform lewd acts, showing indecent images, and attempting to meet a child for sexual purposes. The court heard that Phair initiated online contact with “Chloe,” believing her to be a 13-year-old girl, sending explicit messages and videos while instructing her to undress and send photos. He expressed a desire to have sex with her, claiming she would not get pregnant due to a previous vasectomy. Phair was arrested by Greater Manchester Police officers when he arrived at an arranged meeting point behind a local supermarket.
The judge sentenced Phair to two years’ imprisonment.
Following his convictions, Phair was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and made subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
He also remains subject to statutory public protection notification requirements, licence conditions, and monitoring by law enforcement upon release.
