In 2026, Syed Rafay Ahmad, a 44-year-old man from Wythenshawe, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 27 years after pleading guilty to murdering his wife outside their family home.
Syed Rafay Ahmad, of Lulworth Gardens, Wythenshawe, appeared at Manchester Crown Court on Friday, 31 July 2026, where he was sentenced after admitting murder mid-trial. The court heard that on the morning of Tuesday, 27 January 2026, police and emergency services responded to a domestic incident at Ahmad’s address. Responders discovered an unresponsive woman outside the property suffering from significant knife wounds. Despite emergency medical efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene, and Greater Manchester Police officers arrested Ahmad.
Following his guilty plea, the judge sentenced Ahmad to life imprisonment, ordering that he must serve a minimum of 27 years in custody before becoming eligible to apply for parole.
Following his murder conviction, Ahmad remains subject to statutory public protection monitoring, life licence supervision, and stringent risk management protocols upon any eventual release from prison.
