In 2021, Stephen Johns, a then 45-year-old man from Guisborough, was jailed for six years after sexually assaulting a teenager and possessing extreme pornographic material.
Stephen Johns, of Kingfisher Drive, Guisborough, was sentenced at Teesside Crown Court to six years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual assault and one count of possessing extreme pornography involving animals. The court heard that Johns carried out physical sexual assaults against a vulnerable teenage girl in 2019, having consumed a large quantity of alcohol and provided the victim with an alcoholic drink beforehand. He physically restrained the victim during the assault before apologising for his actions immediately afterwards.
Following a police investigation, officers arrested Johns and subsequently uncovered extreme pornographic material in his possession in July 2020. During police interviews, Johns admitted to the physical assaults. Recorder Jamie Hill QC described his actions as unfathomable and noted the severe distress inflicted upon the victim before handing down the six-year custodial sentence alongside an indefinite restraining order.
In addition to his six-year prison sentence, Johns was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
He was also made subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to ensure strict ongoing monitoring and manage public safety risks following his eventual release.
