In 2021, a nine-year prison sentence was imposed on a paedophile, Mark Smith, who was convicted of grooming three young boys, encouraging others to undress online, and filming children in swimming pool changing rooms.

Mark Smith engaged in a game of darts with three young boys, all of whom were under the age of 12, at his residence in Hereford. Subsequently, he caressed them and engaged in masturbation in their presence.

The judge at Worcester Crown Court on Friday stated that Smith, 55, was “hiding a dark secret” and had “blatant paedophilia tendencies” as a result of the offences he committed against the boys, which included sexually touching them and pulling their trousers down.

The police were summoned after one of the boys engaged in conversation with his friend’s mother, which led to the discovery of the offences.

After Smith, of Grandstand Road, was apprehended and two laptops were confiscated, prosecution barrister Alexandra Ball stated.

Police discovered 263 indecent images and videos classified as category B, as well as 53 in category C. These depicted the abuse of minors between the ages of eight and sixteen by men.

Smith had superimposed himself on some of the images, and Ms Ball stated that the individuals were in “various states of undress.”

Smith also employed an online chat website that randomly pairs strangers, according to her. She claimed that he encouraged children to remove their clothing and engaged in conversations that were “sexual in nature.”

Additionally, they discovered footage from the changing rooms of a public swimming pool, although the specific location was not identified. Smith employed concealed cameras to capture individuals as they changed.

She stated that the recordings, which she suspected were recorded some time ago, were obtained by concealing a camera in a bag he was carrying or by sliding the phone beneath stalls.

Smith was visible at the outset of certain videos.

Smith entered a guilty plea to 13 offences, which included the recording of a private act for his own sexual gratification, creating indecent photographs, and sexually touching the three boys.

He entered a not-guilty plea to the fourteenth charge; however, the prosecution did not pursue it.

Judge James Burbridge sentenced Smith to a total of nine years in prison, stating that the consequences of the offences were lifelong for the victims in certain instances.

He issued an indefinite sexual harm prevention order to Smith, and he will be required to sign the sex offenders register and pay a victim surcharge.
