In 2021, the Offender Register confirmed that Scott Chapman, a paedophile, who assumed the identity of a juvenile girl on the internet, was discovered to possess 550 images of child sexual abuse.
On December 4, 2019, officers from the Essex Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) conducted a raid on the residence of Scott Chapman in Hume Close, Tilbury.
The team, which specialises in the investigation of online child abuse, had received information that the internet at the address had been utilised to view indecent images of children.
Officers discovered over 550 indecent images of children on a mobile phone that could be attributed to Chapman, which was seized after searches at the location and another address.
In addition, they discovered numerous social media platforms on which Chapman had either sent indecent images to other paedophiles or posed as a juvenile girl.
Three counts of distributing indecent images of children and three counts of creating indecent images of children were brought against the 24-year-old.
At Basildon Crown Court, he admitted the offences and was subsequently sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment.
