In 2022, the Offender Register reported that Gary Staines, then 66, of Marks Hall Lane in Margaret Roding, attended Chelmsford Crown Court on 1 December. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison for indecent offences that occurred over nine years in the 1990s.
In June 2020, the victim in this case courageously reported her experiences to Essex Police, prompting an investigation by the Quest team.
Beginning in 1991, Staines had subjected the juvenile victim to years of abuse and manipulation. In the wake of intricate investigations, Staines was apprehended and charged with four counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 and one count of incitement to perpetrate an act of gross indecency.
On November 1, his trial at Chelmsford Crown Court concluded. Subsequently, on December 1, he appeared in court and was declared guilty.
He was subsequently sentenced to 19 years in prison with an extended licence of one year.
