After being incarcerated, the individual who was subjected to a barbaric assault by Marcus Jones, a predatory colleague, has been commended.
Marcus Jones pursued the woman into the staff toilet at her place of employment on Boxing Day of the previous year and assaulted her. The woman resisted with great courage.
The victim was able to escape the toilet and raise the alarm, despite Jones’ attempts to strangle her.
Officers apprehended Marcus Jones after he fled the shop and texted his girlfriend to inform her that he intended to wait for the victim. The officers responded by blue-lighting the scene.
The 22-year-old was accused of false imprisonment, intentional strangulation, attempted sexual assault, and assault by beating, despite having given a no-comment interview.
Jones, a resident of Witton Park in Bishop Auckland, was scheduled to stand trial after pleading not guilty to certain offences.
However, he changed his pleas at Durham Crown Court and was subsequently sentenced to 45 months’ imprisonment on Friday, June 19. It was his initial offence.
