Amar Ilyas, 41, Kamran Ilyas, 38, and Kamar Ilyas, 39, were convicted of crimes against girls as young as 12 that were committed between 2004 and 2007.
Kamran and Kamar, 39, were convicted guilty of five sexual offences against one of the girls, while Amar, who fled to Pakistan prior to his trial, was found guilty of twenty offences against five victims.
Amar was sentenced to 27 years in prison, Kamar to 10 years, and Kamran to three years at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday.
As part of the National Crime Agency’s (NCA) Operation Stovewood, which looked into sexual abuse in South Yorkshire, the brothers were detained in 2020 and charged in 2023.
The NCA claims that between 2004 and 2006, a girl in Sheffield, who was between the ages of 12 and 14, was sexually abused by all three brothers.
At the time, the men were between 17 and 18 years old.
Around the same time, Amar Ilyas sexually abused and raped four other girls, ages 13 to 18.
He intimidated his victims by using the moniker “Killer” and his violent reputation.
The woman who suffered abuse from all three brothers claimed in a victim impact statement that the anguish they had caused her had “seeped into every corner of my life.”
She claimed that flashbacks “hit without warning” and that the nightmares were “relentless.”
Another woman said to the court: “I hope that now I can start to try and rebuild my life and show that I am stronger than you, better than you, kinder than you and have higher moral standards than you.”I’ve survived. You [Amar Ilyas] are a coward who is unable to deal with the fallout from your own transgressions.”
A third lady, who was raped by Amar Ilyas while sleeping at her friend’s house when she was about 13 years old, claimed that although the assault “will never leave me,” she was “finally taking back control.”
“You have ruined a big part of my life but you will never win, I won’t let you,” claimed a fourth lady, who was about eighteen or nineteen when Amar Ilyas saw her alone in Sheffield and raped her in an alleyway.
Judge Peter Hampton called Amar Ilyas a “determined and predatory sexual offender” and called on the police to find him.
An arrest warrant has been issued for him.
“The court heard loud and clear from the women how the Ilyas brothers inflicted devastating suffering upon them, suffering which affects them to this day,” stated Alan Hastings, senior investigative officer for the NCA.The women’s courage, fortitude, and will to live were evident in every one of their statements.
Officers were conducting investigations to find and apprehend Amar Ilyas, according to the NCA.
