For a series of sexual assaults at a children’s home in the 1970s, former teacher Roland Simmons was given a 14-year prison sentence.
At the time of the crimes against the four victims in care at Guestling House in Hastings, East Sussex, Roland Simmons, a resident of Chartham, Kent, was a teacher.
The 77-year-old was found guilty in April of ten counts of indecent assault on a youngster under the age of sixteen at Lewes Crown Court, despite his denial of the accusations.
Catherine Wear of the Crown Prosecution Service previously stated: “Simmons was supposed to be caring for these boys, but instead he abused the trust placed in him, knowing that the boys would struggle to speak out and report what was happening to them.”
Simmons was abusing one of the victims when he woke up, according to Wear, and the former teacher then declared that he had been dreaming.
She also said that after Simmons initially mistreated him, another victim called him “persistent” because he would invite him to go outside in his car by himself, but he would consistently refuse.
The trauma of sexual abuse can stop victims from making complaints for many years, but these men had the courage to come forward and report what happened to them, and by doing so have ensured that Simmons has been brought to justice for his appalling crimes,” Wear stated.
Sussex Police refuse to release his image out of respect for his age?!
