A Hamilton man, the Hamilton Paedophile, apprehended twice by online paedophile hunters, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Gavin Hamilton, 62, of Eliot Crescent, was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely during his appearance at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
Gavin Hamilton confessed to two offences of transmitting sexually explicit messages to adult ladies whom he mistakenly believed to be underage females.
The court was informed that Gavin Hamilton interacted with the ‘girls’ over social media.
The first offence happened on various occasions between September 20, 2022, and October 25 of that year.
Gavin Hamilton exchanged messages with a woman pretending to be a 13-year-old girl.
Then, between December 21, 2022, and August 13, last year, Gavin Hamilton sent messages of a sexual nature to a woman posing as a girl aged 14.
Gavin Hamilton also admitted to downloading indecent images of children between November 8, 2021, and September 17, last year.
Gavin Hamilton will be under social work supervision for 18 months when freed from prison.
