In 2019, the Offender Database recorded that Dominic Peachey, then 37, of Carr Street, Selby, North Yorkshire, was jailed for 16 months for the possession and exchange of child abuse imagery. On appearing at Leeds Crown Court for sentencing, it was reported that the former maths teacher at a West Yorkshire high school took secret, sexualised photographs of his pupils and used them as “bargaining tools” to obtain graphic child sex abuse material.
The investigation established that Peachey, also known as Dominic Peachey-Moore, networked with convicted paedophile and former Welsh Government lawyer John Ryan-Guess. West Yorkshire Police reported that South Wales officers discovered a file on Ryan-Guess’s computer titled “Dominic My Choices,” which contained sub-files of schoolgirls in uniform. The prosecution reported that some of these images, taken secretly in a classroom, focused on the children’s crotch areas, including one of a girl aged 12 or 13.
Judicial Findings and Investigative Detail
The court reported that Peachey breached his fundamental duty of care as a schoolmaster to facilitate his “vile” trade with other predators. Leeds Crown Court heard how a search of Peachey’s devices in Selby uncovered 14 Category A movies and still images—the most serious level of child abuse material—alongside Category B and C images and extreme pornography depicting animals. The prosecution reported that the school confirmed the background of the photographs matched one of their classrooms in West Yorkshire.
Judge Tom Bayliss QC noted that while the photographs of the schoolgirls did not form part of the specific charges, they were a “heinous” aggravating feature of the case. For his actions in West Yorkshire and Selby, Peachey pleaded guilty to nine offences of making indecent images and three of possessing extreme pornographic images. The judge noted that a substantial custodial sentence was necessary to demonstrate that such a gross betrayal of professional trust would not be tolerated.
Sentence and Statutory Requirements
For his crimes in England, Dominic Peachey was handed:
- Custodial Sentence: 16 months in prison (2019).
- Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements were activated for 10 years.
- Professional Status: Permanently barred from the teaching profession by the Teaching Regulation Agency.
- Judicial Oversight: Sentenced at Leeds Crown Court following an investigation by West Yorkshire Police.
- Origin: Carr Street, Selby, North Yorkshire (Offences in West Yorkshire).
- Network Contact: John Ryan-Guess (Sentenced to 20 years in 2018).
Monitoring and Public Protection
Peachey is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by West Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Police, and the National Probation Service in the Selby area. Due to his “predatory” behaviour in a classroom setting and his history of networking with high-profile offenders, his management is subject to high-level oversight by the Public Protection Unit.
As a member of the Sex Offenders Register, Peachey must comply with notification requirements regarding his identity and residence until 2029. Authorities state that his history of taking surreptitious photographs of children in his care necessitates permanent and stringent monitoring of his conduct and digital access. Any further sexual misconduct or breach of his notification requirements in Selby, Leeds, or elsewhere will result in immediate arrest and a return to the court system for further incarceration.
