In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Gary Wood, aged 40, formerly of Pontlottyn, was convicted at Cardiff Crown Court.

Offences:

  • Sexual activity with a child, contrary to Section 9(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003
  • Assault of an emergency worker, contrary to Section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and Section 1 of the Assaults on Emergency Workers Act 2018

Although he entered pleas of not guilty, he was found guilty by the court following a trial.

Sentence:

  • Six-month custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months
  • Financial penalty of £400
  • £154 victim surcharge
  • Requirement to complete 20 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) days
  • Registration on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years
  • A restraining order was granted for the protection of the victim

It is understood that Mr Wood is currently residing in the Gwent/Caerphilly area of South Wales.

The offences in this case are of a serious nature, particularly given the lasting harm that sexual abuse can cause to a child. While the court has imposed the above sentence, concerns have been raised regarding whether it adequately reflects the gravity of the offences and their long-term impact on the victim.
