In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Lorna Henderson, then 23, of Whitehall Street, South Shields, Tyne and Wear, and Konrad Klecha, then 23, of Masseys View, Blaydon, Tyne and Wear, were sentenced for their involvement in the distribution of child abuse material. Appearing at Newcastle Crown Court, the pair were sentenced for “vile” digital offences that Judge Stephen Earl described as a rare and “sinister” case involving a female defendant.

The investigation established that Henderson believed she was in a relationship with Klecha and engaged in online sexual activity via WhatsApp to please him. The prosecution reported that the dynamic took a “vicious” turn when Klecha, who possessed a direct paedophilic interest, persuaded Henderson to source and send him indecent images of children. Klecha further attempted to “vilely” arrange a situation where the pair could engage in sexual activity in the presence of a child, a proposal Henderson refused.

Judicial Findings and Investigative Detail

The court reported that Klecha was the primary instigator and “viciously” led a vulnerable woman down a criminal path to satisfy his own sexual interests. Judge Earl emphasised that while society feels “horror” at such crimes, medical reports indicated Henderson had no paedophilic interest herself but suffered from low self-esteem and a “reprehensible” desire to maintain her relationship with Klecha. The judge emphasised that Henderson was essentially “feeding his needs” due to her vulnerability.

Klecha admitted to possessing indecent images and two counts of attempting to arrange or facilitate a child sexual offence. The judge emphasised that Klecha was the one with the direct “vile” interest in children and had never been in trouble before this case. For their crimes in Tyne and Wear, the court determined that Klecha required immediate imprisonment, while Henderson’s sentence was suspended due to her lack of prior interest and the influence of the co-defendant.

Sentence and Statutory Requirements

For their crimes in England, the court handed down the following:

Konrad Klecha:

  • Custodial Sentence: Two years and four months in immediate custody.
  • SHPO: A Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life.
  • Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements for 10 years.

Lorna Henderson:

  • Custodial Sentence: Two years’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.
  • Rehabilitation: Mandatory rehabilitation activity requirements.
  • SHPO: A Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years.
  • Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements for 10 years.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Both offenders are managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Northumbria Police. Due to the “vicious” nature of Klecha’s attempts to facilitate contact offences and Henderson’s involvement in distribution, their digital activities remain under the highest level of scrutiny by the Public Protection Unit.

As members of the Sex Offenders Register, both must comply with mandatory notification requirements regarding their residences in South Shields and Blaydon, Tyne and Wear. Authorities state that Klecha’s lifelong SHPO is a vital tool to prevent him from “vilely” targeting children in the future. Any breach of their registration conditions or court orders will result in their immediate arrest and return to Newcastle Crown Court.
