In 2024, the Offender Database reported that Craig Smith, then 45, of Bruce Road, Radford, Coventry, was sentenced to eight years in prison at Lincoln Crown Court. Smith was convicted of eight counts of sexual assault following a four-day trial, despite denying the allegations.

The investigation by Lincolnshire Police established that the abuse occurred over a two-year period between 2018 and 2020. The “vicious” offences took place in the areas of Woodhall Spa and Lincoln. Smith had pleaded not guilty to all charges, forcing the teenage victim to undergo the “difficult” experience of testifying during the trial.

Judicial Findings and Lack of Remorse

Temporary Det Con Robert Djemah reported that Smith showed no remorse for his actions or for the trauma he inflicted upon the teenager. The officer commended the “courage” of the victim for standing in court to tell the truth and expressed hope that the eight-year sentence would encourage other victims of “abhorrent” sexual offences to come forward.

Sentence and Statutory Requirements

For his crimes in Lincolnshire, Craig Smith was handed the following:

  • Custodial Sentence: Eight years in immediate custody.
  • Sex Offenders Register: Smith was placed on the register for the rest of his life.
  • Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO): Mandatory restrictions were served to protect the public from further harm.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Smith is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Lincolnshire Police and West Midlands Police. His history of serial sexual offending and his total lack of remorse mean his status remains under “critical” scrutiny.

As a lifetime member of the Sex Offenders Register, Smith must comply with strict notification requirements regarding his address and travel. Lincolnshire Police state that they will use all available resources to monitor him upon his eventual release on licence. Any breach of his SHPO or registration conditions will result in his immediate return to Lincoln Crown Court.
