In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Nathan Trewern, then 30, of Treloweth Road, Pool, Redruth, Cornwall, was spared immediate jail time at Truro Crown Court. Trewern was sentenced for a “vicious” decade-long campaign of making and distributing “vile” child abuse material, as well as possessing extreme pornography involving animals.

The investigation by Devon & Cornwall Police revealed that between 2015 and 2024, Trewern amassed a “serious” collection of images for his own sexual gratification. The court heard that he specifically sought out material showing children being raped, as well as “vile” acts of intercourse between humans and animals, specifically dogs and horses.

“Serious” Scale of Illegal Material
The forensic examination of Trewern’s devices uncovered a “vile” quantity of material:

  • Category A: 190 images (the most “serious” classification, depicting rape and penetrative abuse).
  • Category B & C: 159 Category B images and 51 Category C images.
  • Distribution: He was convicted of distributing 231 indecent images of children to others.
  • Extreme Pornography: Possession of “vicious” and realistic images of intercourse or oral sex with live animals.

Trewern pleaded guilty to five “serious” charges, admitting that he had been “viciously” involved in these activities for over nine years.

Suspended Sentence and Rehabilitation
For his “abhorrent” crimes in Pool, Redruth, and Camborne, Nathan Trewern was handed a two-year suspended prison sentence. His sentence includes:

  • 200 hours of unpaid work in the community.
  • 40 days of Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR), specifically including a sex offender’s treatment programme.
  • A 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
  • 10 years on the Sex Offenders Register.
  • £120 in court costs.

Monitoring and Public Protection
Trewern is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Devon & Cornwall Police. His residency in Pool, Redruth, and his digital behaviour remain under “serious” scrutiny.

As a registered sex offender, Trewern must comply with strict notification requirements for a decade. His SHPO allows specialist officers to perform “serious” and intrusive monitoring of any internet-enabled devices he uses. Devon & Cornwall Police emphasise that their cyber-crime units are “serious” about tracking those who distribute “vile” material. Any breach of his suspended sentence or further “vicious” digital behaviour will result in his immediate return to Truro Crown Court to serve his two-year term behind bars.
