In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Samuel Zammit, then 24, was sentenced to 9 years’ imprisonment by the High Court in Edinburgh. Zammit, originally of Andover, Hampshire, was convicted of a “vicious” series of rapes and sexual assaults against two eight-year-old girls and a 24-year-old woman in Dundee, Tayside.

The court heard that Zammit barricaded the two children in a bedroom at a house in Dundee. On 5 March 2016, he raped one eight-year-old girl and attempted to rape the second. Despite his denial of the attacks during his trial, a jury convicted him on majority verdicts for these “serious” offences.

Domestic Abuse and Violence

In addition to the attacks on children, Zammit was convicted of repeatedly “viciously” assaulting a woman during visits from England. The court reported that:

  • March 2015: He raped the woman after pushing her onto a sofa and restraining her.
  • October 2016: He committed a second rape under similar circumstances.
  • Physical Abuse: He was found guilty of striking the woman in the abdomen between 2015 and 2016 while she was expecting. The victim reported that she lost the baby weeks after the assault.

The victim told police that Zammit had forced himself on her despite her repeated pleas for him to stop.

Sentence and Extended Supervision

Lady Scott emphasised that Zammit poses a “high risk” of sexual violence against adult women and a “medium risk” to children. For his crimes in Dundee, Samuel Zammit was:

  • Sentenced to nine years in prison.
  • Ordered to be kept under supervision for a further three-year period upon release.
  • Placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

The judge provided a written copy of her reasoning to ensure Zammit fully understood the “serious” nature of his “behaviour” and the consequences of any future breach of his licence conditions.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Zammit is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Police Scotland. His history of “vile” sexual violence in Dundee and his connection to Andover, Hampshire, remain under the most “serious” level of scrutiny.

The three-year extended supervision period ensures that Zammit will be closely monitored by specialist officers to protect the public, particularly women and children. Police Scotland emphasise that any breach of his strict licence conditions will result in his immediate return to prison.
