In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Jeffrey Senior, then 53, of Iveson Drive, Lawnswood, Leeds, was jailed at Leeds Crown Court for breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO). Senior had allowed two 14-year-old schoolchildren to sleep in his flat, prompting a missing person investigation by West Yorkshire Police.
Officers discovered a 14-year-old girl and her 14-year-old boyfriend asleep under a duvet on a sofa in Senior’s property. The court heard that the boy had also been smoking cannabis at the flat. Senior had previously been jailed in 2013 for three years for false imprisonment, sexual activity with a child, and sexual assault, making his recent actions a “serious” violation of his court-ordered restrictions.
Breach of Court Orders and Drug Use
The prosecution reported that police were directed to Senior’s flat in Lawnswood after the girl’s parents reported her missing. Upon entering the property in the early hours of the morning, officers found the teenagers while Senior was in bed.
During his interview, Senior made several admissions:
- He had allowed the boy to visit his flat on approximately 20 previous occasions.
- He permitted the boy to smoke cigarettes and saw him smoke a cannabis joint from an ashtray.
- He allowed the girl to stay after she disagreed with her mother, even though he knew he was prohibited from having children in his home.
Sentence and Restrictions
Senior pleaded guilty to breaching his SOPO. The conditions of the order strictly prohibited him from having any unsupervised contact with a child under 16 and from inviting or allowing minors into his home. For his actions in West Yorkshire, Jeffrey Senior was:
- Sentenced to 18 months in prison.
- Remanded for his repeated disregard of public protection measures.
The judge emphasised that Senior’s history of sexual offences made the presence of vulnerable children in his home an “unacceptable” risk.
Monitoring and Public Protection
Senior is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by West Yorkshire Police. His residency in Lawnswood, Leeds, and his history of sexual offending will be under “serious” scrutiny upon his release.
As an offender who has demonstrated a willingness to flout court orders, his living arrangements and social contacts will be subject to strict notification requirements. West Yorkshire Police emphasise that missing person investigations are prioritised to identify those who may be harbouring vulnerable youngsters. Any further contact with children or breaches of his SOPO will result in an immediate return to custody.
