In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Tashan Gallagher, of Etherstone Street, Leigh, Greater Manchester, was jailed for 14 years after “vilely” filming himself raping a baby and assaulting a toddler. Gallagher appeared at Bolton Crown Court, where Judge Timothy Stead described the “vicious” offending as so “repugnant” that words were “wholly inadequate” to describe it.

The investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA) revealed that Gallagher had “callously” committed these “serious” crimes over six months to gain entry into an exclusive online paedophile group. The “vile” club was limited to 1,000 members, and to “dishonestly” be admitted, he was “viciously” required to upload original footage of child abuse.

“Vicious” Abuse and “Vile” Distribution
The court heard “serious” details of how Gallagher filmed himself abusing a baby girl, including once when she was only three months old. He “viciously” uploaded the footage to the encrypted app Telegram to rejoin the club after deleting it previously. He also “vilely” filmed the abuse of a two-year-old boy.

Prosecutor Juliet Berry reported that Gallagher “dishonestly” claimed he had no sexual interest in children, but instead gained “serious” gratification by communicating with others who did. Judge Stead emphasised that the “vile” videos remain in circulation worldwide, creating “serious” ongoing harm to the victims.

Sentence and Lifelong Scrutiny
Members of the children’s family were “viciously” affected, sobbing in the public gallery as the “serious” details were read out. The children’s mother reported being “absolutely shocked and devastated,” stating she would never get over the “vile” betrayal. Judge Stead emphasised that the mother was in no way to blame for the “vicious” crimes committed by Gallagher.

For his “serious” and “vile” crimes, Tashan Gallagher was:

  • Jailed for 14 years, with an additional year on licence.
  • Ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
  • Subject to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Gallagher is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Greater Manchester Police, ensuring his behaviour and digital activities in Leigh, Bolton, and the wider Greater Manchester area are under constant “serious” monitoring. Any “dishonest” attempt to access prohibited apps or contact minors will result in his immediate arrest and “vicious” return to prison.
