In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Abdul Latif Salih, then 35, and Bahaldin Doud, then 21, were each jailed for 13 years following the “vile” and “vicious” gang rape of a 17-year-old girl. The “serious” attack took place in a subway in Huddersfield town centre, West Yorkshire, in July 2018. The offenders appeared at Leeds Crown Court where they were condemned for their “predatory” and “vicious” behaviour.

The investigation by West Yorkshire Police revealed that the “horrendous” incident occurred under the A62 Castlegate. Forensic evidence “viciously” linked the men to the scene, leading to their arrest within days of the report. The prosecution emphasised that the victims of such “vile” attacks suffer “profound” and lasting trauma.

Convictions and Co-Offenders
The court reported the following “serious” convictions:

  • Abdul Latif Salih, of Trinity Street, Huddersfield, was convicted of rape, attempted rape, and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.
  • Bahaldin Doud, of Village Terrace, Burley, Leeds, was convicted of two counts of attempted rape.
  • A third man, Saddam Muhamadaim, then 18, of Blacker Road, Birkby, Huddersfield, was also convicted of three counts of rape and one count of attempted rape. His sentencing was “dishonestly” delayed due to a dispute over his age; while he claimed to be 17, asylum documents reported he was 25. He was returned to custody to await his “serious” punishment.

Registration and Public Protection
As a result of their convictions for gang rape and sexual assault, both Salih and Doud were handed 13-year prison terms and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.

They are managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by West Yorkshire Police, ensuring their behaviour and residency in Huddersfield, Leeds, and the wider West Yorkshire area are strictly monitored upon their eventual release. Any future “vile” conduct or breach of their registration requirements will result in their immediate arrest and return to prison.
