In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Sovamsing David Muivah, 26, of Abbots Park, St Albans, Hertfordshire, was jailed after using his professional position to sexually assault four women. Muivah, known as David, was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, to four concurrent prison terms of two-and-a-half years each. The investigation revealed that he systematically abused his position of trust while working as a masseur at the Sopwell House Hotel.

The “vile” offences took place between February and October 2024. The court heard how Muivah targeted women aged in their 30s, 40s, and 50s during what were supposed to be professional massage treatments. The prosecution emphasised that Muivah “callously” touched the victims in intimate areas without their consent. Because he “dishonestly” pleaded not guilty, the survivors were forced to endure the trauma of cross-examination during a trial.

The investigation by St Albans CID was triggered in October 2024 when one “courageous” victim reported the abuse to both the hotel and the police. Detectives subsequently identified three further victims from across the country who were previously unknown to each other. Detective Constable Oliver Virtue emphasised the incredible strength shown by the women, one of whom described Muivah as “a sheep in wolf’s clothing,” highlighting how he exploited his role to carry out his “predatory behaviour.”

During sentencing, His Honour Judge Mann KC emphasised that the victims were in a particularly vulnerable position, often facedown and trusting the staff at Sopwell House. He reported that the women had been “violated” and suffered significant psychological consequences. The judge also praised the Hertfordshire Constabulary for their “professional and well-executed” investigation.

As a result of his convictions for sexual assault by touching, Sovamsing David Muivah will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Hertfordshire Constabulary until his custodial term is complete. The court further reported that upon his release from prison, Muivah will be deported back to India.
