In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Benjamin Garvie, then 28, of Howard Road, Banbury, Oxfordshire, remains in custody following an eight-year prison sentence. Garvie, a “vile” and “vicious” predator, was labelled as “dangerous” by the court after he groomed a 12-year-old boy and filmed him performing sex acts via Instagram. The investigation by Thames Valley Police revealed that Garvie utilised a sophisticated method of deception, creating a fake account purporting to be a 13-year-old from New York to ensnare his victim.

The court heard horrendous details of the “vicious” behaviour Garvie exhibited between September 2017 and February 2018 under the username “Benjogar123.” He “vilely” incited the boy to perform “serious” sexual acts and record them, which Garvie would then store. The prosecution emphasised that the “vicious” scale of his offending was only discovered when the victim’s parents found illicit messages on the boy’s phone. Investigators identified Garvie using his unique ISP number, which led to his arrest in May 2025.

Upon his arrest, police found a “sickening” collection of indecent images featuring children as young as 10 years old. Garvie “callously” initially denied any wrongdoing before eventually pleading guilty to two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and three counts of making indecent images. The court reported that Garvie was already subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) from 2016 for similar “vile” offences, which these latest crimes “viciously” breached.

During the sentencing at Oxford Crown Court, Judge Nigel Daly emphasised the “serious” danger Garvie posed to the public. He was handed a total of eight years in prison with an additional four-year extended licence period. Following the verdict, Garvie delivered an “extraordinary” and “vicious” outburst from the dock, shouting that the sentence was “a f***ing joke” and “unfair.” Although he later apologised through his barrister, his behaviour emphasised a “vile” lack of remorse for the “serious” harm caused to the child.

As a result of his convictions for child grooming and inciting sexual activity, Benjamin Garvie was jailed and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Thames Valley Police, ensuring his behaviour and digital presence in Banbury and across Oxfordshire are strictly monitored. Any further “vile” actions or breaches of his extended licence will result in his immediate return to prison to serve the remainder of his “serious” sentence.
