On January 12, 2026, the Offender Database reported that Rhydian Lyn Rhys Jamieson, of Cwm Cou, Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire, was sentenced to 35 years in prison at Swansea Crown Court. Jamieson pleaded guilty to the vile and horrific attempted murder of his own infant daughter. The court heard that on January 15, 2025, while left alone with the defenceless baby for less than thirty minutes at an address in Y Ferwig, Ceredigion, Jamieson “snapped” and threw the child at a television, inflicting life-threatening and catastrophic injuries.

The investigation by Dyfed-Powys Police revealed a depraved series of events following the violent assault. After throwing his daughter, Rhydian Lyn Rhys Jamieson placed her under a blanket and fled the property, later sending disturbing Snapchat messages and voice notes to friends and the baby’s mother, admitting he had “tried to kill” her. The mother returned to find her child face down on a bed; emergency services were alerted by concerned friends across the UK who had received Jamieson’s sickening admissions.

In a moving victim impact statement, the baby’s mother described how Jamieson had caused “unimaginable pain” and robbed her of a normal life. Medical experts remain uncertain about the long-term impact of the horrendous injuries, leaving the family to live with the unbearable uncertainty of whether the child will ever walk or talk. Detective Chief Inspector Gary Williams described the incident as an “appalling act of violence” and a “despicable attack” on a child who should have been safe in her father’s care.

As a result of his conviction for the attempted murder of an infant, Rhydian Lyn Rhys Jamieson will be managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Dyfed-Powys Police for the duration of his life. His 35-year sentence reflects the seriousness of his violent and vile conduct. Upon any eventual release, he will remain under strict supervision, and any presence in Newcastle Emlyn, Y Ferwig, or contact with the victims will result in his immediate return to custody.
