In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Cameron Haigh, then 24, of Nursery Gardens, Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, was sentenced at Hull Crown Court after being caught in a sting operation by online paedophile hunters. Cameron Haigh, a joiner by trade, was using the social media dating application Jaumo to target individuals he believed were underage girls. Despite being told by two separate decoys—”Paula Page,” aged 13, and “Gabby Osbourne,” aged 14—that they were children, Haigh persisted in sending vile and explicit messages and photographs to them.

The court heard that Cameron Haigh communicated with the first decoy for over two months and the second for nearly a year. When the 13-year-old decoy told him, “I’m only a kid,” and questioned why he would want to perform sexual acts on her, Haigh reportedly replied that “it did not matter.” He also utilised WhatsApp to distribute indecent images of himself. His predatory behaviour was eventually ended when members of the group “Justice For Children” traced his phone number to the home he shared with his parents in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, and confronted him.

Cameron Haigh pleaded guilty to four offences of attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in sexual activity and two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. The prosecution, led by Richard Thompson, noted that Haigh claimed he was merely looking for a “f*** buddy.” Despite a previous conviction for inflicting grievous bodily harm and a caution for assault, Judge David Tremberg handed Haigh a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, stating that Haigh had been unable or unwilling to control his depraved sexual impulses.

As a result of his convictions for these serious sexual offences, Cameron Haigh has been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years. He was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for the same period and was required to complete the Horizon sex offender programme and 15 days of rehabilitation. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Humberside Police, remaining under supervision for the duration of his order. Any breach of his 28-day curfew or his SHPO conditions in the Beverley area will result in the activation of his custodial sentence.
