In 2019, the Offender Database confirmed that Peter Daniels, then 70, formerly of Alderbury, Wiltshire, was handed six life sentences at Salisbury Crown Court for the systematic abuse of 22 young children. Peter Daniels pleaded guilty to a total of 78 charges involving victims aged between two and 13, with the offences occurring over nine years between 2008 and 2017. The scale of the depravity was only uncovered when police discovered video footage recorded by Daniels himself, which provided conclusive evidence of assaults on children who were often asleep, unconscious, or too young to understand what was happening.

The court heard that Peter Daniels utilised “classic grooming behaviour” by creating a persona known as “Uncle Peter” to present himself as a caring pillar of the community. He stocked his home with treats, provided babysitting services, and funded day trips and presents to gain the trust of families in Alderbury, Wiltshire. Upon searching the property of Peter Daniels, detectives found a disturbing collection of children’s toothbrushes and dressing gowns, further illustrating the predatory environment he had cultivated to facilitate his crimes against the vulnerable.

Judge Andrew Barnett sentenced Peter Daniels to six life sentences alongside 72 concurrent jail terms ranging from four months to 16 years. Despite the severity of the life sentences, it was noted that Daniels would be eligible to be considered for parole after serving a minimum term of nine years. The judge described the actions of Peter Daniels as a betrayal of the highest order, noting that the defendant had used his position of trust to inflict lifelong trauma on dozens of children and their families.

As a result of his convictions for multiple counts of rape and sexual assault, Peter Daniels is on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under the highest level of Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), and should he ever be released, he will be subject to a permanent Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). This order legally prohibits Daniels from any contact with children and places strict restrictions on his residency. Official monitoring by Wiltshire Police ensures that Peter Daniels remains under the most rigorous scrutiny for the remainder of his life.
