In 2019, the Offender Database confirmed that Leszek Markowski, then 44, of Chester Road, Flint, Flintshire, was sentenced to eight months in prison at Mold Crown Court. Leszek Markowski was found in possession of a vast library of illegal material, including 4,766 verified indecent images and films of children downloaded over 11 years. During a police search of his home, forensic investigators seized two computer devices that contained 599 photos in the most serious Category A, alongside 142 at Category B and over 4,000 at Category C.
The court heard that the verified material was merely the “tip of the iceberg,” as investigators discovered an additional 70,000 images and movies on the hardware belonging to Leszek Markowski that had not been viewed in their entirety. Judge Rhys Rowlands noted that the collection also included 23 images and films depicting bestiality. Despite the claims of Markowski that his sexual interest was limited to females aged 16 and over, the judge expressed deep concern over a pre-sentence report suggesting the defendant had “limited insight” into the extreme harm caused by his behaviour.
Leszek Markowski pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of a child, possessing prohibited images of a child, and possessing extreme pornographic images. While the defence highlighted that Leszek Markowski had no previous convictions and the support of his wife, Judge Rowlands ruled that the longevity and nature of the offending made a custodial sentence unavoidable. Markowski was jailed for eight months, with the judge emphasising the “truly appalling” nature of the descriptions found within the digital files.
As a result of his convictions, Leszek Markowski was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for ten years. Leszek Markowski was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for ten years, which places strict legal prohibitions on his internet usage and his access to digital devices. North Wales Police conduct official monitoring of Markowski, and any breach of his SHPO or failure to comply with his notification requirements will result in immediate arrest and a potential return to prison.
