In January 2026, the Offender Database reported that Hefin Davies, an Upper Brynamman Paedophile Teacher Sex Offender, transmitted sexual texts and films to an individual he presumed to be a 12-year-old child, according to court proceedings. Upon the arrival of law enforcement at the defendant’s residence for his arrest, he frantically attempted to obliterate evidence by resetting his phone to factory settings. Subsequently, he deceived the officers by claiming that the device was merely “updating.”

Swansea Crown Court was informed that 32-year-old Hefin Davies had been conversing with an undercover police officer utilising a decoy account on a dating platform.

The judge informed the defendant that it was merely by chance that the recipient of his “obscene conversations” was a decoy rather than an actual youngster. To receive the most recent court updates, subscribe to our crime newsletter.

Hannah George, prosecuting, informed Swansea Crown Court that in October 2024, Davies commenced communication with a profile on the networking platform Hornet under the alias “Eric” to conceal his identity.

She stated that the profile informed the defendant he was 12 years old, to which the defendant recognised the considerable age discrepancy and remarked that it did not bother him. The boy’s profile was, in reality, a ruse operated by an online undercover police officer.

The court was informed that the individuals initiated communication via the Snapchat messaging application, during which the defendant transmitted several sexually provocative and explicit images and films to the decoy, including images of his erect penis and videos of him engaging in masturbation.

Hefin Davies transmitted deceptive photographs and films of young boys participating in sexual acts and requested the decoy to provide him with images.

The court was informed that on October 24, 2024, police officers arrived at the residence of the 32-year-old defendant, and after a brief interval, Davies responded to the doorbell.

The defendant’s phone was identified and confiscated; he informed officers that the device was “updating,” although it soon became evident that he had intentionally completed a factory reset to eliminate any evidence.

The prosecution stated that law enforcement discovered a computer magazine on the premises, including articles on utilising the Tor private internet browser, methods for concealing a user’s location, techniques for anonymous file downloads, and strategies for creating fictitious online identities.

Davies was apprehended and remained silent in response to the caution. The defendant was transported to Dafen police station, where he declined to disclose the PIN for devices located in his residence and subsequently responded “no comment” to all enquiries during the questioning.

Hefin Davies, residing on Cwmgarw Road, Upper Brynamman, Carmarthenshire, had earlier entered a guilty plea for attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor during his sentence hearing.

He was first charged with attempting to obstruct justice regarding the factory reset of his phone; however, that case was not prosecuted following his plea regarding the communication violation. The defendant possesses no prior convictions.

Judge Huw Rees informed Davies that it was merely fortuitous that the recipient of his “obscene conversations” was a police decoy account rather than an actual youngster.

At the time of the offence, Hefin Davies would have been recognised in the Upper Brynamman community as a teacher, and his “demise” would have been acknowledged by the inquisitive populace of a tiny hamlet.

The judge stated that, based on all the information he had seen, he was certain that immediate incarceration was not the sole suitable form of punishment in this case.

Hefin Davies received a one-third discount for his guilty plea, resulting in an eight-month prison term, suspended for 18 months. He was also mandated to complete a rehabilitation course and perform 150 hours of community service.

The defendant will be designated a registered sex offender for a duration of 10 years and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the equivalent period.
