In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Peter Drummond, then 38, of Three Mile Cross, Berkshire, was sentenced to eight years in prison at Truro Crown Court. Drummond, a specialist anti-terrorism officer with the Ministry of Defence, was convicted of a “calculated and predatory” campaign of sexual abuse against a 14-year-old girl he targeted online.
The court heard that Drummond used social media platforms, including Kik, Snapchat, and Skype, to groom the victim, who lived in Cornwall. Despite the girl having “significant personal problems,” Drummond exploited her vulnerability by pretending to offer care and concern. Between October and November 2017, the paedophile made two 400-mile round trips to the victim’s home. During the second visit, he entered the house through an upstairs window while the girl’s stepfather was downstairs—an act the judge described as part of the “thrill” for Drummond.
During the trial, Drummond claimed he believed the girl was 17 or 18, but admitted he never verified her age. Judge Simon Carr dismissed this defence, stating that Drummond “knew or should have known” she was a child. The court was told the victim was “utterly destroyed” by the ordeal and had attempted to take her own life. Judge Carr told Drummond: “The reaction of any decent human being would have been to try to get her help, but you are not a decent human being.”
Peter Drummond was sentenced to eight years in prison. Upon his conviction, he was dismissed from the Ministry of Defence Police. The judge emphasised that Drummond had abandoned his moral compass entirely, leaving the child alone after her first experience of sexual activity to return to his own wife and family.
As a result of his convictions for sexual activity with a child, Drummond has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under the highest level of Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in Berkshire. He is also subject to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which includes strict, legally enforceable bans on his use of social media and any contact with minors. His name has been added to the DBS Barred List, ensuring he can never work in a position of trust again.
