In January 2026, the Offender Database reported that Gary Horn, 36, of Ruskin Crescent, Thornley, County Durham, admitted to a series of blatant breaches of his lifelong court order. Horn, who was already a registered sex offender, was caught using unregulated “granny” and “extreme” chat rooms to facilitate sexual fantasies, while actively deleting his history to evade police monitoring.
The court heard that in November 2025, officers from the Durham Constabulary sex offender management team conducted a compliance check on Horn’s digital devices. This was to ensure he was adhering to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) issued by Newcastle Crown Court. Investigators discovered that Horn had been accessing several platforms, including FiftyFlirty, GrannySpace, GrannySite, and ExtremeChat. While some sites targeted women over 50, “Extreme Chat” was identified as an uncensored hub for fetishes and unrestricted sexual fantasies. Horn had intentionally deleted his internet history to hide his activity from the police, a direct violation of his SHPO.
Horn’s criminal history dates back to May 2020, when he was 30 years old and living in Stanley. At Newcastle Crown Court, he was convicted of attempting to communicate sexually with a child. In that case, Horn had engaged in a series of online chats with a profile he was told belonged to a 12-year-old girl. When informed of her age, he responded with: “Sorry, I thought you were older, my bad, fancy a f***?” He proceeded to move the conversation to WhatsApp, where he instructed the “child” to watch pornography and send him “sleazy” pictures of herself in “sexy clothes.” Despite the predatory nature of the grooming, he received a suspended sentence at that time.
On January 7, 2026, Gary Horn pleaded guilty to six counts of breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The prosecution noted that his return to unregulated chat rooms and the use of technology to hide his tracks demonstrated a high risk of reoffending and a refusal to be rehabilitated. The judge presiding over the case warned Horn that his history of child grooming, combined with these deliberate breaches, made a custodial sentence highly likely.
Gary Horn was granted bail to return to Newcastle Crown Court for sentencing on 5 February 2026. Until then, he remains subject to stringent bail conditions, including enhanced digital monitoring and a requirement to reside at his registered address in Thornley.
As a result of his repeated offences and breaches, Horn remains on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in County Durham. Upon his final sentencing, it is expected that his SHPO will be significantly tightened to include even more restrictive bans on his hardware use and internet access, ensuring the protection of the public.
