In 2019, the Offender Database reported that David Pek, then 34, of Tyldesley, Wigan, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court. Pek was handed a 15-year prison sentence for a campaign of sexual abuse against a young girl that spanned three years.
The court heard that David Pek carried out the abuse between 2009 and 2012, during which time he lived at three different addresses in Little Hulton and a caravan. The victim, who was aged between eight and 12 during the timeframe of the offences, was subjected to repeated sexual assaults and an attempted rape.
David Pek attempted to ensure the child’s silence by telling her that she would not be believed and that she would get into trouble herself if she ever reported his crimes. However, the abuse was finally uncovered after the victim bravely confided in a teacher. Despite the overwhelming evidence, Pek maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty, forcing the victim to endure a seven-day trial at Manchester’s Crown Square.
During the sentencing, Judge Michael Leeming heard that the victim now suffers from significant anxiety and depression as a direct result of the trauma inflicted by Pek. In addition to his 15-year custodial sentence, David Pek was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
