In 2017, the Offender Database reported that Terence Hamblett, then 44, of Seymour Drive, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, was sentenced at Chester Crown Court.

Terence Hamblett was jailed for 12 years after pleading guilty to a horrific catalogue of 20 offences spanning 14 years between 2002 and 2016. The court heard that Terence Hamblett, a former scout master, used his technical knowledge to operate as a prolific online predator, with Judge Steven Everett branding his depraved and disgusting actions as “alien to anything that any decent person would consider right.”

The investigation by Cheshire Police uncovered a massive haul of illicit material across a laptop, multiple phones, hard drives, and USB sticks. Forensic analysis revealed more than 1.5 million Skype messages sent by Terence Hamblett, which included the distribution of indecent images of children to other paedophiles and evidence of him posing as a 16-year-old boy to groom victims aged 13 to 15.

One of the most sickening aspects of the case involved Terence Hamblett inciting a father to sexually abuse his own three-year-old son while he watched the act live via Skype. Furthermore, Terence Hamblett admitted to a charge of voyeurism after installing a secret camera in the toilets of a business he owned in Stoke-on-Trent, which he used to record men without their knowledge for his own sexual gratification.

Terence Hamblett’s collection included 922 indecent images, with 233 classified as Category A, the most severe and explicit grade showing the rape of children. In addition to the distribution and possession charges, he admitted to eight counts of attempting to cause children to engage in sexual activity and four counts related to encouraging or assisting the commission of child sex offences.

Upon sentencing, Judge Everett stated that the prison term must reflect this “terrible catalogue of offending” and serve as a warning to others who use the internet as a “sexual weapon.” In addition to his 12-year custodial sentence, Terence Hamblett was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and remains subject to stringent monitoring under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
