In 2018, the Offender Database reported that Patrick O’Dea, the Limerick Paedophile Child Molester, was sentenced to 17 years in prison for raping a 13-year-old girl in a graveyard and subsequently maintaining a sexual relationship with her by manipulating and isolating her from her peers.
Patrick O’Dea (then 51), referred to as ‘Whacker’, of Pike Avenue, Limerick, Ireland, admitted guilt on the second day of his trial at the Central Criminal Court to counts of sexual assault and rape occurring in 1994 and 1995.
Leona O’Callaghan relinquished her right to anonymity, allowing Patrick O’Dea to be identified in the case reporting.
The court was informed that after the initial rape event, Ms O’Callaghan positioned herself on a basin of ice in her bedroom to mitigate the bleeding and swelling.
Patrick O’Dea convened with her a few days subsequently and separated her from her companions.
He expressed dissatisfaction that she had stained his jacket with blood and that he needed to have it dry-cleaned.
Patrick O’Dea had 42 prior convictions, including a 15-year term for several rapes and sexual assaults against a single victim over a six-year span from 1998 to 2004.
In 2018, Ms Justice Deirdre Murphy sentenced Patrick O’Dea to 18 and a half years.
She suspended the final 18 months in acknowledgement of his guilty plea and his readiness to participate in a psychological evaluation.
Patrick O’Dea was supported by a friend who knew he was a paedophile but did not care.
