The Offender Database reported that on Wednesday, November 12, at Chelmsford Crown Court, Marc Cheeney, the Essex Rapist and Sex Offender, was sentenced to five years in prison for rape after a five-day trial at the same court the previous month.
He had already entered a guilty plea to one count of coercive and controlling behaviour. He refuted the allegation of rape, but the jury found him unconvincing.
He received a ten-year restraining order and was indefinitely registered as a sex offender.
A survivor of rape added:
It’s difficult to put into words how appreciative I am of the support and commitment of the police throughout this time.
And now that he has been convicted and sentenced for what he did to me, I feel such relief and see a fresh beginning in front of me. I did it for myself, but I also did it for all women.
I don’t want anyone else to go through what I did.
