Kane Povey, 24, of Devonshire Street, was sentenced to 12 years after admitting guilt to six charges midway through his trial.
A child protection investigator has commended a young child for their courage in disclosing the abuse they endured, thereby stopping the culprit from inflicting more harm on themselves or other children.
Kane Povey will serve 11 years of incarceration and one year on licence.
An inquiry into Povey commenced in October 2022 following an allegation to the police regarding the sexual assault and rape of a seven-year-old child.
The Cleveland Police promptly implemented protective measures for the child and provided the victim and family with further specialised assistance from local professional partner agencies.
Kane Povey was apprehended and interrogated; however, he refuted the allegations. Upon reviewing substantial evidence from the police, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) sanctioned six charges against him.
The charges included three counts of child rape involving a victim under the age of 13 and three counts of inducing a child under 13 to participate in sexual behaviour.
Kane Povey maintained his denial of any misconduct, and a trial commenced in September of this year.
During the trial, he altered his plea and acknowledged the six charges.
He was incarcerated until his sentencing appearance at Teesside Crown Court today.
Kane Povey will face incarceration, be registered as a sex offender, and be subject to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Upon his eventual release, he will adhere to stringent terms and be monitored by specialised police personnel.
