In 2022, Marcus Sawkins, the Northolt Sex Offender, a 53-year-old man from Northolt, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison after being convicted of sexual assault.
Marcus Sawkins, from Dabbs Hill, improperly groped the woman when she was asleep in a hotel room in Newbury during the summer of 2018, following a night of drinking together.
Marcus Sawkins refuted the accusation, attributing blame to the victim, yet was convicted at Reading Crown Court in July following a four-day trial. He received his sentence on Tuesday, September 6.
Investigating officer DC James Postans stated, “Marcus Sawkins exploited a vulnerable woman who was incapable of consenting to any activity.” He has exhibited no contrition and has attempted to attribute responsibility to the woman throughout this inquiry and legal proceedings.
I would like to applaud her for her courage in reporting what was undoubtedly a profoundly distressing assault. It is hoped that her incarceration will afford her some solace as she endeavours to progress in her life.
Our team exerted considerable effort to get this matter to trial and secure justice for her. We regard all reports of sexual offences with utmost seriousness and will diligently pursue offenders.
