Michael Commettant, a former school support worker and Lambeth Paedophile, from South London, has been incarcerated for sexual offences following a swift investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Team.
Michael Commettant, employed as a learning behaviour mentor at a school in South London, was apprehended following his designation as a wanted individual by detectives.
Authorities sought him following the school’s report of concerns regarding his conduct, and on Wednesday, May 17, one day after the report was made, Michael Commettant was apprehended and interrogated.
Two days post-arrest, Michael Commettant was indicted for engaging in sexual conduct with a minor by an individual in a position of trust and for instigating a minor to partake in sexual activity by a person in a position of trust.
Officers uncovered that he had initiated sexual contact with a teenage girl, prompting them to take swift measures for her protection.
Following the charges, a search was conducted at Michael Commettant’s residence, resulting in the seizure and examination of his digital devices. The investigators determined that he had corresponded with the victim through a clandestine email account and had attempted to conceal texts sent from him to her.
Detectives swiftly constructed a profile of his criminal behaviour and uncovered the methods he employed to groom the adolescent by analysing phone data. These demonstrated that he had contacted the victim numerous times from a concealed number, indicating a violation of the safety protocols he had committed to uphold in his position at the school.
During the interview, he remained mute and instead presented a prepared statement, which refuted any allegations of coercing the girl into sexual actions.
In September 2023, Michael Commettant admitted to all charges, and on Wednesday, April 17, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Woolwich Crown Court.
Detective Constable Isa Hemphrey, who spearheaded the investigation and provided assistance to the victim and her family throughout the judicial proceedings, stated:
I am really satisfied with the court’s decision to incarcerate this individual, who perpetrated a reprehensible breach of trust.
This guy was entrusted to assist youngsters and, instead of fulfilling this essential responsibility, he chose to disregard all professional boundaries and engage in an entirely improper sexual connection with a teenager.
“His behaviour was reprehensible, and he will justifiably be prohibited from working with children in the future.”
I express my gratitude to my team and all my colleagues who diligently and professionally dedicated the necessary time and effort to this case. I trust that this outcome aids the victim and her family in their recovery and progression from this ordeal.
“Primarily, I aspire that this case will empower individuals in analogous circumstances to the victim to possess the confidence to communicate with law enforcement and recognise that they have a voice.”
Upon release, Michael Commettant, 27 (born 13.06.1996) of St. Lawrence Way, Myatts Fields South, Lambeth, London, SW9, will be registered as a sex offender for a duration of 10 years. He will additionally be supervised by officers in the Met’s Jigsaw squad, who oversee sexual offenders in the community and implement measures to avoid recidivism.
