A malevolent Cornish child molester, Timothy Bates, the Liskeard Paedophile, has received a life sentence for abhorrent offences.

Timothy Bates, 53 years old, is required to serve a minimum of 20 years for crimes committed against a minor in South Devon.

Timothy Bates attended Exeter Crown Court to get sentenced for what the court described as a prolonged campaign of sexual abuse occurring over a decade ago.

The judge commended the victim’s grit and courage, characterising her as “the most impressive witness he had ever encountered.”

The defendant, Timothy Bates, residing on Liskerrett Road in Liskeard, was found guilty in July of four counts of causing or inciting a minor under the age of 13 to participate in sexual activity.

He refuted the allegations, asserting that he was a diligent individual who had been unjustly accused.

He appeared in court today, Tuesday, October 7, for sentencing.

The victim said in a statement that his crimes had left her traumatised and she suffers flashbacks to the abuse, but “I stand here today feeling stronger” having fought for justice.

“I have experienced evil and I cannot forgive or forget that,” she said. She said the opportunity to make Timothy Bates accountable for his actions would help her to heal.

Judge Stephen Climie imposed the maximum sentence for his crimes.

He said Timothy Bates continues to pose a very significant risk to the public and of committing further sexual offences.

He told Timothy Bates: “Even if you were to be released after 20 years, you will be subject to licence for the rest of your natural life.”
