A Dundee Rapist taxi driver, Saifal Zaveri, convicted of raping two young passengers, has been sentenced to imprisonment.

Saifal Zaveri, 42, assaulted a 17-year-old student after collecting her as a fare from outside her residence in Dundee.

The married father of three, with a prior conviction for stalking, also sexually assaulted a 16-year-old passenger during a trip from Dundee to Monifieth.

Saifal Zaveri, from Mayfield Grove, Dundee, refuted allegations of rape and sexual assault but was convicted after a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh in June.

During the sentencing at Glasgow High Court, Saifal Zaveri’s acts were characterised as opportunistic and predatory.

The court was informed that Saifal Zaveri, who resigned as director of Abertay Cabs in April 2021, continues to assert his innocence.

The ex-newsagent received an enhanced sentence of 11 years, with eight years to be served in prison.

The ex-shopkeeper was registered on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
