Two paedophiles, Daniel Ford and Alex Hughes, were sentenced today, Tuesday, September 9, for historical sexual offences committed in 2010 against two young females in St Helens.

Daniel Ford, residing on Recreation Street in St Helens, and Alex Hughes, from Longfield Avenue in Poulton-le-Fylde, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court subsequent to a comprehensive investigation conducted by officers from Merseyside Police.

The court was informed that 15 years prior, Daniel Ford and Alex Hughes had befriended two girls, aged 12 and 14, and would convene in St Helens town centre, where the offenders, Daniel Ford and Alex Hughes, supplied them with alcohol. The sexual assaults were reported in March 2022.

In August of the previous year, detectives charged both individuals; 36-year-old Daniel Ford faced three counts of engaging in sexual behaviour with a minor. Alex Hughes, aged 32, was accused of 13 sexual crimes.

Alex Hughes admitted guilt to engaging in sexual behaviour with victim one, the 12-year-old girl, but only when she was 14 years old or older.

After a trial, Daniel Ford was convicted of three charges of engaging in sexual behaviour with a minor. He was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.

Alex Hughes was sentenced to three years and eight months of incarceration.
