A former paedophile guitarist of Paper Lace, John Chambers, and his paedophile roadie, Andrew Polkey, who exploited and raped children have been incarcerated.

Authorities reported that John Chambers, 73, established a friendship with the susceptible boy over 30 years ago after achieving success in the music charts of the UK and US.

He subsequently alternated in verbally assaulting him alongside Andrew Polkey, 57, a roadie for the Nottingham-based band.

John Chambers and Andrew Polkey were incarcerated at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday.

Nottinghamshire Police stated that John Chambers and Andrew Polkey used the young victim for their own sexual pleasure.

John Chambers and Andrew Polkey would administer medications and booze subsequent to asking him to their residences.

During the investigation, two additional victims were located, each having been assaulted by Andrew Polkey.

John Chambers and Andrew Polkey were arrested in 2020, initially denying the offences but subsequently pleading guilty to various counts of abuse.

John Chambers, residing on Crowley Close, Nottingham, was sentenced to 10 years and six months for six counts of indecent assault and two instances of indecent assault against a minor under 16.

Andrew Polkey, residing on Glade Hill Road, Nottingham, was sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment for 17 charges of indecent assault.

A third man, Matthew Mardell, also pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault.

The 46-year-old, who is also from Glade Hill Road, Nottingham, was sentenced to 20 months in prison, suspended for two years.

Nottinghamshire Police first started to looking into the allegations in 2017 when the victim, who is now an adult, came forward to report what had happened to him.

He later decided not to continue with his complaint but changed his mind two years later.

Det Sgt Lee Kirk, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “His evidence was utterly compelling and forensic in detail in places, including details of Chambers’ home and of vehicles linked to his former band.

“In it he painted a picture of a predatory and manipulative child abuser who very deliberately groomed and exploited a secondary school-age boy.”

Andrew Polkey, a known associate of John Chambers, was also identified as an abuser by the victim and a second man.
