A Sussex police officer, Olivia Clinton, has been terminated after sexually assaulting two colleagues by inappropriate touching and making sexual remarks towards them while off duty.
Former Police Constable Olivia Clinton, 30, formerly assigned to the East Sussex division, was the focus of a misconduct hearing conducted at Sussex Police headquarters on 23 April, presided over by Surrey Police Assistant Chief Constable Peter Gardner.
Misconduct hearings are now presided over by a police chief officer, as modified by the Police (Conduct) (Amendment) Regulations 2024. This pertains to instances where misconduct proceedings were initiated on or after 7 May 2024. The misconduct panel includes two Independent Panel Members, appointed by the local policing authority to ensure independence and impartiality during the proceedings, representing the public interest.
The hearing revealed that the former officer attended a social function on 4 January 2024, during which she sexually assaulted two colleagues by groping them and made inappropriate sexual remarks towards them.
The former officer, Olivia Clinton, was suspended from duty during the investigation. It was concluded that although the purported conduct did not satisfy the criteria for criminal prosecution, the officer’s behaviour would be the subject of a disciplinary hearing. She relinquished her position in the force in February of this year.
The panel determined that her actions constituted a violation of the Standards of Professional Behaviour concerning discreditable conduct, authority, respect, and civility, amounting to gross misconduct, which was acknowledged by the former officer. She will now be included on the College of Policing Barred List, so prohibiting her return to policing.
