Matthew Muller, the infamous convicted kidnapper in the Vallejo “Gone Girl” case, has been indicted for a series of house invasion sexual assaults recorded 15 years prior in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The events occurred in Mountain View and Palo Alto, as reported by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
Matthew Muller, 47, was a key figure in the Netflix documentary series “American Nightmare,” which examines the 2015 abduction of Denise Huskins. Authorities initially regarded the kidnapping as a ruse orchestrated by Huskins and her boyfriend.
On March 23, 2015, Matthew Muller infiltrated the Huskins’ residence, where he incapacitated and restrained the couple. He abducted Huskins and transported her to a cabin near South Lake Tahoe, where he sexually assaulted her.
Two days later, he transported her to Southern California, where he liberated her. The case elicited parallels to the film “Gone Girl.”
Matthew Muller was subsequently identified as a suspect and apprehended. The Vallejo Police Department ultimately compensated Huskins and her partner with a settlement of $2.5 million.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney reported that a new lead prompted collaboration with the Palo Alto and Mountain View Police Departments. Evidence was returned to the District Attorney’s crime laboratory for additional analysis.
Matthew Muller’s DNA was discovered on the straps utilised to restrain one of the victims. The District Attorney and the police agencies undertook a subsequent investigation, leading to these new accusations.
Matthew Muller now confronts two felony charges of sexual assault during a home invasion for the 2009 offences, as stated by the DA.
“The particulars of this individual’s violent crime spree appear to be scripted for Hollywood, yet they are lamentably authentic,” stated District Attorney Jeff Rosen. “Our objective is to ensure that this defendant is held accountable and will never inflict harm or instil fear in anyone again.” We aspire for this ordeal to conclude.
On September 29, 2009, Matthew Muller purportedly infiltrated a Mountain View woman’s residence, assaulted her, restrained her, compelled her to ingest a “concoction of medications,” and threatened to rape her, according to the District Attorney. Subsequent to the victim, a woman in her thirties, dissuading him, he recommended that she get a puppy and then departed.
The subsequent incident transpired on October 18 of the same year. Matthew Muller purportedly infiltrated a residence in Palo Alto, restrained and silenced a woman in her thirties, and compelled her to consume Nyquil. The District Attorney stated that he commenced the assault before being convinced to cease.
Matthew Muller provided the victim with crime prevention advice and then departed. The District Attorney stated that both matters were probed but remained unresolved.
Matthew Muller admitted admission to kidnapping in the “Gone Girl” case in 2016 and to the sexual assault of Denise Huskins in 2022.
