In 2026, a 55-year-old Wrexham man was handed an extended 10-year prison sentence at Mold Crown Court after carrying out the depraved sexual abuse of a two-year-old child.
Tristan Watson, residing at Bentley Avenue, Gwersyllt, appeared in the dock before Judge Simon Mills on Monday 26 October 2026. Watson was sentenced after being convicted of one count of assaulting a female child under the age of 13 by penetration.
Opening the facts of the case, prosecuting barrister Myles Wilson detailed that the abhorrent offence was committed against the two-year-old victim in August 2023.
A moving victim personal statement authored by the child’s mother was submitted to the court, expressing the profound distress and lasting anger caused by the defendant’s conduct. The mother stated that what Watson had done was completely “unforgivable” and emphasised that “no child should be exposed to this.” She voiced serious concerns that her daughter could suffer psychological trauma and flashbacks as she grows older, while resolutely affirming to the court: “I will not let this define her.”
Sentencing Watson, Judge Simon Mills delivered a scathing rebuke of his predatory behaviour, telling him directly that he harboured a “deviant sexual attraction” towards the very young child.
“This is a matter that will follow you for the rest of your life,” Judge Mills warned Watson from the bench.
Assessing the extreme risk posed by the defendant, the judge sentenced Watson to an extended determinate custodial term totalling 10 years. Under the terms of the sentence, Watson must serve a minimum of six years and eight months in closed prison conditions before the Parole Board can evaluate whether he is safe enough to be released on an extended licence period.
Judge Mills further imposed strict ancillary orders to ensure long-term public and child protection:
Indefinite Restraining Order strictly prohibiting Watson from contacting the child victim or her mother directly or indirectly for life
Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) restricting his activities and contact with children
Indefinite notification requirements under the statutory Sex Offenders Register
