In October 2026, a 39-year-old man from Boston was sentenced to 14 years and two months’ imprisonment at Lincoln Crown Court after being convicted of two counts of rape and communicating sexually with a child.
Timothy Markham, of Hawthorn Close, Fishtoft, Boston, appeared before the court for sentencing on Thursday 22 October 2026 following a contested trial.
The prosecution outlined that Markham carried out two separate rapes against an adult female victim, alongside a third offence of engaging in illicit sexual communication with an underage child. Markham denied all three allegations during police interviews and maintained not guilty pleas throughout legal proceedings.
On 20 August 2026, a jury at Lincoln Crown Court rejected his defence, returning unanimous guilty verdicts on all counts on the indictment:
Two counts of rape
One count of engaging in sexual communication with a child
At the sentencing hearing, the presiding judge addressed the gravity of the sexual violations and the targeting of both an adult and a child victim.
Markham received two concurrent custodial sentences of 13 years for each count of rape. To reflect the distinct harm and nature of the online offence, the judge ordered him to serve a further 14 months consecutively for engaging in sexual communication with a child, resulting in an aggregate prison sentence of 14 years and two months.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed an indefinite restraining order prohibiting Markham from contacting the victims directly or indirectly. The judge also issued a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order containing strict behavioural restrictions and placed Markham on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely for the remainder of his life.
