On December 9, 2022, at around four in the morning, Tamara and Damion Thomas neglected to get their son Joshua emergency medical attention.
Hours later, he passed away at Birmingham Children’s Hospital after collapsing at their Kings Heath home.
Both 48-year-old Damion and 46-year-old Tamara were characterised at the time as “loving, caring, and devoted” to Joshua and their six other children.
However, Mrs. Justice Cutts said that their “we know best” attitude toward people attempting to assist had disastrous results when she sentenced them today, Friday, June 19.
She stated that if they had contacted emergency services earlier, Joshua could have survived.
After a trial, Tamara was found guilty of gross negligence manslaughter and given a sentence of three years and nine months.
After being found guilty of an alternative charge of child cruelty, Damion was sentenced to two years and nine months.
