In 2026, a Liskeard serial paedophile, Simon Tanton, was given a 17-year term after being found guilty of “numerous sexual offences” with a girl in elementary school.
Rapson Road, Liskeard resident Simon Tanton, 45, entered a not guilty plea but was ultimately convicted guilty of all charges.
After being found guilty, he was sentenced to seven years and six months in jail at Truro Crown Court.
He started abusing her sexually when she was just six years old, and the abuse persisted for a long time.
Tanton was given a 16-year prison sentence by Judge Carr, which included one year on an extended licence.
Before being eligible for release, Tanton will complete two-thirds of his sentence.
In addition, a lifelong restraining order prohibiting him from contacting his victim was placed on the sex offenders‘ register.
The counts were:
- Indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 years, namely six or seven years.
- Gross indecency with a girl under the age of 14 years — causing her to watch him masturbate.
- Gross indecency with a girl under 14 years of age — single charge of inciting her to touch his penis.
- Indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 years, namely 11 to 12 years — multiple charges of digital penetration of her private parts
- Indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 years, namely 11 to 12 years — single charge relating to kissing and molesting her
- Indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 years — single charge of digital penetration of her private parts.
